It was the only distance shoe to incorporate an air unit in the heel at the time (and perhaps even up until now as well). It was the hot shoe to have back then and definitely the most comfortable track spike ...
This affirmation , is based on a true track and field runner that ran back in the 80;s with Nike ..
Thanks to that person Jay S . for sharing that precious information !

Yeah, this was the 2nd spike to have Air after the Zoom Air (another great spike).
Released in 1988, the Zoom Ultra was very comfortable due to the midsole and dynamic sleeve upper construction. Felt like slippers! My favourite spike of all time and very hard to find, even back then!
Since then, a few Nike spikes have had Air in (Zoom Kennedy, Ventulus etc) but none can compare with this shoe.

The Zoom Air was the first Nike distance spike to incorporate the air in the heel - not the Zoom Ultra. What was unique about the Zoom Ultra was it was the first Nike spike that had the full length spike plate and was available to the general public. Previous to the Ultra, Nikes with full length spike plates were only available to Nike's elite runners.
